Terra Trax’s goal is to give people new life experiences,  to take people to places beyond where even your imagination would normally go.  This is just a small part of what Canyoneering is about.

Slot canyons are one of the most unique geologic features on our planet. From  Utah through Arizona we can arrange an amazing Canyoneering experience that will leave a lasting impression on the mind and in the soul.

So what is Canyoneering?

"Canyoneering" is the art of exploring canyons,  from a gentle hike along a river with 1000 foot walls surrounding you to multi day rappelling, swimming and climbing canyoneering means true adventure. The term is most commonly used to describe canyon hikes in which ropes and basic climbing skills are  required to completely navigate the canyon. These canyons are thus called "technical canyons".  One of  the most intriguing aspects of canyoneering  involves hiking between two sandstone sculptured walls, the nature of these canyons is that there are often a series of challenges that must be negotiated.  These challenges can include climbing, rappelling, swimming, and even jumping into pools of water. This is where to skills come in.  Many of the  canyons in Arizona and Southern Utah require the use of ropes to descend the steep sections.  This can vary from a 10 foot hand line to a 450 ft. rappel down a vertical face.  Box Canyon

The beauty of  obtaining these skills is that canyoneering skills then allows people to venture into places out of reach of the average hiker. As a result, Canyoneers frequently find themselves in the lesser visited - and often times very beautiful parts of a canyon.

Sedona is considered the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau and there several amazing canyons to explore within ten miles of Sedona, such as the infamous  West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon.  Another interesting  technical tributary of the Oak Creek is James Canyon.  We offer guided hikes in Arizona and Utah. We supply all equipment. We are happy to provide information and local conditions. If we cannot assist with the canyon of your desire we will provide you with a list of canyoneering guides throughout the southwest.
